'''''Dante's Peak''' occurs as 1997 action-adventure film starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton. It portrays the symptom of a volcano erupting in the settlement in the Pacific Northwest. It was discharged two or three months prior to Volcano'', another motion-picture show of the equivalent disaster genre.
A film was actually credited by geologists for portraying the geologic activities in the film fairly accurately. [http://www.geol.umd.edu/pages/facilities/lmdr/dante/dante.htm]
A motion-picture show is placed in the fictitious town of Dante's Peak, Washington in the Cascade Range but was actually filmed in Wallace, Idaho, with a image of the volcano superimposed above the footage of the town (Wallace doesn't have a rattling volcano nearby.) Depending somewhat on the real-life eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980 and the active status of other volcanoes in the Cascade range such as Mount Rainier, Dante's Peak depicts the efforts of a geologist to warn the townspeople about the impending eruption, and the subsequent efforts to rescue victims of the volcano including the family of the town's mayor.
Since a release of ''Dante's Peak'', a "avalanche" a share of the Universal Studios Backlot Tour has been redesigned to be the volcano & retitled "Dante's Peak."
